Ginger and jaggery are powerful ingredients that offer a wide range of health benefits. They can be combined together to make a candy that boosts immunity, aids digestion, and fights nausea.
Many of us deal with ailments such as indigestion, nausea, and colds and ginger is the only place that provides the therapeutic effects of dealing with these health issues. Jaggery on the other hand improves immunity and cleanses the body because it is rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium and phosphorous.
An effective way to combine these two powerful ingredients is in the form of “candy”. Yes, you can make delicious desserts that you and your loved ones can enjoy while dealing with cold and coughing and relieving nausea, sore throats and stomach problems.
So, to help you make this dessert, we offer you a simple recipe that you can try from the comfort of your home:
Ingredients you will need
- 75-100 grams peeled ginger
- 150gm jaggery powder
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
Preparing the dessert
Step 1: Chop peeled ginger and coarsely grind using a mortar and pestle. Put the mashed ginger in the sun to dry it completely. Once it dries, whisk it into the mixture until you get a powder.
Step 2: Take a cauldron and add jaggery powder (keep a handful to sprinkle on dessert for later), ginger powder, clove powder, black pepper and water.
Step 3: Continue to wet the ingredients over medium heat, and let the jaggery thaw completely. The ingredients should start to feel like sugar syrup.
The fourth step: After stirring the ingredients for 2 to 5 minutes, turn off the flame and let the syrup sit for about a minute.
Fifth step: Now, take a chocolate mold or parchment paper (in the absence of a mold) and add the syrup to it one tablespoon at a time. Remember to grease the mold or parchment paper with some ghee.
The Sixth Step: Let the syrup cool completely then sprinkle some jaggery powder on the dessert.
The seventh step: Store candy in an airtight container in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator for an hour. In an hour, your healthy dessert is ready to be enjoyed!
Although this dessert has medicinal properties, its sweetness makes it palatable to babies as well. You may also find that homemade gingerbread and jaggery have a much better texture than those we get in stores. Some pointers to keep in mind are that when choosing ginger, make sure it is soft. Moreover, cleanse them well as they root and scrape the skin thoroughly before turning it into powder.
To achieve texture consistency, quickly create drips on the parchment or parchment paper as if you were to leave it at room temperature for longer periods, as the texture may get too soft.
Also, the part where you are using ghee to grease the parchment / parchment paper is important because the candy can stick to the surface, making it difficult for you to extract it.
So, ladies, try this easy recipe, follow the recipe and boost your health with ginger candy and jaggery.
