Ginger and jaggery are powerful ingredients that offer a wide range of health benefits. They can be combined to make a dessert that boosts immunity, aids digestion, and fights nausea.
Many of us deal with ailments like indigestion, nausea, colds and ginger is the only place that provides the curative effects to deal with these health issues. Jaggery on the other hand improves immunity and cleanses the body because it is rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium and phosphorous.
One effective way to combine these two powerful ingredients is in the form of a “candy”. Yes, you can make a delicious dessert that you and your loved ones can enjoy while dealing with a cold, cough, and relieving nausea, sore throat, and stomach issues.
So, to help you make this dessert, we offer you a simple recipe that you can try from the comfort of your own home:
Ingredients you will need
- 75-100 grams peeled ginger
- 150g jaggery powder
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon clove powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
Preparing the dessert
Step 1: Chop peeled ginger and grind coarsely with a mortar and pestle. Place the crushed ginger in the sun to dry it completely. Once it dries, whisk it into the mixture until you get a powder.
Step 2: Take a cauldron and add jaggery powder (reserve a handful to sprinkle on pudding for later), ginger powder, clove powder, black pepper and water.
Step 3: Continue to simmer the ingredients over medium heat and allow the jaggery to melt completely. The texture of the ingredients should start to look like syrup.
The fourth step: After stirring the ingredients for 2 to 5 minutes, turn off the flame and let the syrup rest for about a minute.
Fifth step: Now, take the chocolate mold or parchment paper (if you don’t have one) and add the syrup to it one tablespoon at a time. Remember to grease the mold or parchment paper with some ghee.
Sixth step: Let the syrup cool completely and then sprinkle some jaggery powder over the dessert.
Seventh step: Store the candy in an airtight container in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator for 1 hour. After an hour, your healthy dessert is ready to be enjoyed!
Although this candy has medicinal properties, its sweetness also makes it palatable to children. You may also find that the texture of homemade gingerbread and jaggery is much better than the ones we get in stores. Some pointers to keep in mind are that when picking ginger, make sure it is tender. Moreover, clean them well as they are root and scrape the skin thoroughly before turning them into powder.
To achieve consistency in the texture, quickly create the drips on the mold or parchment paper as if you were to leave it at room temperature for longer periods, the fabric may become too soft.
Also, the part where you use the ghee to grease the mold/Paperboard is important because the candy may stick to the surface, making it difficult for you to extract it.
So, ladies, try this easy recipe and follow the recipe and boost your health with the goodness of ginger and jaggery candy.
